Why get permanent residence?
- Indefinite status: the permit does not need renewing, only the card is replaced
- Travel to other Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. EU long-term residents can also get a residence permit in another EU country through a simplified procedure
- A route to Polish citizenship: after 3 years of permanent residence or EU long-term resident status (with stable income and housing), after 2 years of permanent residence if married to a Polish citizen for at least 3 years, after 1 year of permanent residence based on Polish roots or the Karta Polaka. Polish at B1 level is required in every case, except for children under 16
